Praxis I  Information and Preparation

(PPST – Basic Skills)

To be admitted to the Teacher Education Program at Edgewood College and enroll in certain education courses, candidates must pass the Praxis I exams.  You can find detailed information about Praxis I requirements below, or you can visit the Praxis website at:

http://www.ets.org/praxis

Praxis I:  Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST - paper version) or CPPST, also called CBT (computer version), measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics and are designed to be taken early in your college career.  A student must pass all three areas for licensing purposes and to continue taking certain courses in the Teacher Education Program at Edgewood College.  Students are encouraged to take the Praxis I as soon as possible, preferably before the end of their first or second semester on campus.  Students are allowed three attempts for each section of the Praxis I.  If you receive a “no pass” after your first attempt please see your advisor immediately.

Score Information:  The following chart shows the required minimum scores for licensure in the state of Wisconsin.  These scores are also required for entering the Teacher Education Program at the Emergent Level.  If you do not pass a section, you may repeat the exam for that particular section only.  The Department of Education allows you to take the Praxis I exam three times.  Please see your advisor if you receive a “no-pass” score for any section on your first attempt.
